Children’s Health Coverage

We encourage families from different income levels to contact us, including families that may have private insurance but are unable to get coverage for children. A Certified Application AssistorCall 650-616-2002 (CAA) will advise them of their options based on eligibility requirements for different health coverage programs. A CAA will also help with the application process.

Programs for uninsured children, 19 and under

  • Children who do not qualify for Medi-Cal
  • Undocumented children can apply
  • Families with middle income can apply

Healthy Kids

Healthy Kids provides comprehensive health insurance for children and teens who do not qualify for Medi-Cal, for an affordable CoveredCA plan, nor for affordable dependent coverage through their parent’s/guardian’s employer. Undocumented children and teens can apply for Healthy Kids.

What are the costs for Healthy Kids Insurance?

Families pay a family contribution every 3 months for each child’s coverage which ranges from $0 to $90, depending on income. Co-pays for doctor visits, prescription drugs, and eye exams, and other services range from $5 to $15. Co-pays for check-ups, immunizations, annual dental exams and other preventive services are $0.

Kaiser Child Health Plan

This is Kaiser Permanente’s low-cost program for families whose children are not eligible for public coverage programs. Families pay a monthly premium between $8 and $15 per child, depending on income. Some services require $5 co-pay. This program provides comprehensive medical, vision and dental coverage.
