Undocumented women can apply.

Presumptive Eligibility Medi-Cal

Presumptive Eligibility (PE) for Pregnant Women is a Medi-Cal program that gives free, immediate, and temporary coverage for prenatal care. It is temporary while an application for the permanent Medi-Cal program is being reviewed. PE Medi-Cal covers clinic pregnancy tests, prenatal care visits, and prenatal prescription medicines only. Immigration status does not affect eligibility for PE.

Medi-Cal Program

Pregnant women who apply for PE Medi-Cal will be screened for eligibility for other Medi-Cal programs that provide permanent health coverage during and after pregnancy, including coverage for newborns.

A Certified Application AssistorCall 650-616-2002 will explain coverage under these programs and help with the application process if you are eligible.

AIM: Access for Infants and Mothers

This is a low-cost health coverage program for pregnant women whose income is too high to qualify for Medi-Cal. Women who have private insurance can also apply if they cannot afford required high deductibles and co-payments. AIM also covers medical services 2 months (60 days) after pregnancy.

What are the costs for AIM coverage?

AIM coverage does not require monthly premiums or co-pays for services. There is only one amount that enrollees have to pay for their coverage. It is 1.5% of their annual income. This amount can be paid in one payment or in monthly payments.
